What is the AusAlert warning system?
AusAlert is the new national warning system that will be used to send alerts to mobile devices in the event of an emergency.
On Monday 27 July 2026 your mobile device will:
- Vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for around 10 seconds.
- An AusAlert message will appear on your screen saying it’s a test.
You don’t need to do anything. This test will be the first message you get from the AusAlert system, and it is expected to appear on most phones, and some smart watches and tablets.

Do I need to do anything after I receive the AusAlert test?
This is just a test, so you don’t need to do anything.
In an actual emergency, an AusAlert will give you information on the emergency and tell you what to do.

Turning off alerts depends on the type of alert AusAlert might send you:
- Critical alerts – can’t be turned off
- Priority alerts – can be turned off, but this is not recommended.
