How does the prepaid $2 SIM card work?

The $2 SIM card is a starter SIM card you can purchase while deciding on which prepaid plan best works for you. Functioning as a starter kit, you can activate the $2 SIM card first before choosing a Boost prepaid plan to work with. When considering which of our prepaid mobile plans is best suited to you, account for their recharge value, unique benefits, expiry days, additional cost terms and other product offerings. What prepaid plans can I purchase with Boost?

Boost Mobile has a number of prepaid plans ranging in price and data service including 28 day and 12 month plans. Depending on your budget and data needs, you can pick and choose your recharge and manage monthly plans accordingly.

How do I set up my prepaid SIM card?

Setting up your prepaid SIM card is quick and easy. Simply go to activate, enter your SIM Serial number, and pick from the options given to you (e.g. new or existing phone number, recharge now or recharge later).

  • 250Mbps/150Mbps speed cap: Speed cap applies to 4G and 5G networks. Your capped download speed is the maximum potential download speed for data included in your recharge. Factors that affect typical speeds include location, distance from base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.

  • 5G is rolling out in selected areas and available with a compatible device. In non 5G coverage areas, you'll automatically switch to 4G.

  • Rollover unused data to use within your next recharge when you recharge $26, $39, $49, $59 or $74.

  • UNLTD® Calls and Texts includes national calls and text (SMS & MMS) to standard national numbers. Excludes calls and texts (inc. MMS) to international numbers, satellite and premium numbers (e.g. 19xx numbers), operator assisted calls (most 12xx numbers) and all use overseas.

  • UNLTD International calls includes calls from Australia to standard numbers in the selected countries. 300/1200/3600 mins includes calls to standard international numbers from Australia. 300/1200/3600 texts include standard texts (SMS & MMS) to eligible countries.   • Network coverage: Telstra has the largest and most reliable mobile network in Australia covering 99.7% of the Australian population in over 1,600 towns and communities, which is around 3 million square kilometres. Our mobile network is more than 1 million square kilometres greater than our nearest competitor. If you purchase a Boost SIM you must make sure your device is compatible with the Telstra network, including that it is able to make calls to emergency services. If your device is not compatible, it may be blocked and may not have access to voice or data services or be able to call emergency services (including triple zero).
