About eSIM

eSIM (aka embedded SIM) is a small chip that replaces the physical SIM card (aka not embedded SIM) in your smartphone, tablet, smartwatch or other eSIM compatible device.

It’s built right into that compatible device, ready and waiting to be activated on a mobile network in the grand battle of eSIM vs physical SIM. You might also hear names like electronic SIM and software SIM and rewritable SIM card. But we’re sticking with eSIM.

Most phones manufactured after 2020 come with eSIM.

This includes the latest devices from Apple, Samsung and Google are compatible with eSIM, plus it's supported by some handsets from the likes of Huawei, Honor, Motorola, Oppo and Sony.

But don't worry, we'll will check your device's compatibility as you step through the download process.

At the moment, Boost Mobile eSIM is not available for smartwatches.

A dual SIM device can support two SIM cards, allowing both a physical SIM and an eSIM to be installed on the same device. Depending on the device, this could be two physical SIMs, two eSIMs or a combination of both.

This means you can make and receive calls and texts with
two different mobile numbers, as well as use mobile data from two separate plans. And just like twins, the plans don’t even need to be identical.

Dual SIM functionality differs between device models. Check with the device manufacturer for details.

eSIM is digital SIM technology available on compatible devices that allows you to connect without requiring a physical SIM card.

Dual SIM support two mobile services at the same time. Some dual SIM devices also come with eSIM tech, but not all.

To get started, you’ll have to download your carrier’s profile, so you’ll need an internet connection there.

But once that’s done, and the eSIM is activated, it works the same way as a physical SIM card. (So long story short, you only need the internet for that first bit. Then you’re good to go.)

Using an eSIM can eliminate the CO2 emissions involved in manufacturing, warehousing, and delivery of a physical plastic SIM.

Yup yup! All you have to do to sign up for your eSIM service is download the My Boost Mobile app and select “Buy a prepaid plan on eSIM”.and follow the prompts. It’s pretty straightforward though, tbh.

eSIM is like so much better. You can activate,  and get connected in a flash.

You can manage multiple numbers and data plans on a single device without swapping SIM cards. . You don’t have to worry about losing SIMs, or putting them in that little tray the wrong way up, or getting fingerprints on the bronze bit… even though that probably wouldn’t make a difference to your bars, but better safe than sorry. Oh, and there’s less chance of accidentally swallowing one than there is with a physical SIM.

Once the eSIM profile is downloaded, your phone should show a notification confirming that an eSIM has been added or is ready for activation. This notification will appear differently depending on your device (iPhone or Android).

  • On an iPhone, go to Settings > Mobile and look for "Boost Mobile" under eSIM.
  • On Android, go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs OR SIM Manager (or similar, depending on your device). You should see "Boost Mobile" as an active SIM.

After the eSIM is activated, you should see "Boost Mobile" or "Boost" with signal bars in the status bar, confirming a connection to the network.

Yes, Boost Mobile typically sends a confirmation message or email once your eSIM profile has been downloaded, and the porting and activation proces is complete.

First, try restarting your device. If the issue persists, double-check Boost Mobile’s activation instructions or contact Boost’s customer support for additional assistance.
